Japanese eVisa for Bangladeshi Citizens
The Japanese government has launched an electronic travel system to Japan, so tourists can apply online for permission to visit the country.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions, Japan has introduced the eVisa slowly. Currently, a select few nationalities are eligible. Other visitors, including citizens of Bangladesh, must still apply for a visa at an embassy.
Japan is gradually lifting its restrictions. It is expected that the eVisa will become available to more travelers in the near future. It may soon be possible to get a Japanese eVisa for Bangladeshi passport holders.
The eVisa will streamline the process for issuing visas and make it quicker and easier to authorize a trip to Japan.
Do Bangladeshi Travelers Need an eVisa to Visit Japan?
No, Bangladeshi travelers do not need an eVisa to visit Japan at the moment. The Japan eVisa is currently unavailable to visitors traveling on a passport issued by Bangladesh.
Only Bangladeshi dual citizens with a passport issued by an eligible country, such as Canada, the United States, and Taiwan, may get the Japan visa online.
To get a Japan visa for Bangladeshis who do not have a second citizenship, you must apply in person at a Japanese embassy.
As Japan lifts its travel restrictions, it is likely that it will expand its eVisa program to more nationalities. It may soon be possible to get a Japan online visa for citizens of Bangladesh.
Japan eVisa Requirements for Nationals of Bangladesh
It is currently not possible to get an eVisa for Japan for Bangladeshi nationals, unless they are also a citizen of an eligible country and have a passport issued by that country.
Bangladeshi passports are not eligible to apply for a Japan eVisa at present.
To get a visa online, it is necessary to comply with a list of Japanese eVisa requirements. These can vary depending on the nationality of the applicant’s passport, place of residence, and purpose of travel.
Required documents include the following:
- Passport issued by an eligible country with at least 6 months of validity as well as a minimum of two blank pages
- A digital copy of a recent passport-style photograph

The following documents may also be required:
- Letter of invitation
- Documents to prove kinship (when visiting relatives) — these may include birth certificates, marriage certificates, a certified copy of the family register, etc.

- Proof of sufficient funds to support oneself
- Itinerary with the details regarding date of entry, accommodation in Japan, and proof of onward travel
